# SpongeBob's too-big handcuffs are back as a meme.

The SpongeBob handcuffs meme uses a 2017 scene where giant handcuffs slide straight off his skinny wrists. It is posted over situations that look serious but are completely escapable.

SocialBee's September 22 roundup says the image picked up a fresh wave in September after circulating for years. The shape of the joke never changes: something feels like a trap, then you notice there is a Leave Meeting button.

That is why it works for group chats. It is not about a real disaster; it is about the fake ones we talk ourselves into, like a subscription with an unsubscribe link or plans you are allowed to cancel.

**Okay but settle this:** Describe a situation that feels like a trap. Are you actually stuck, or are the handcuffs way too big?
